NRA and Florida Will Bypass Mediation Over Parkland Law

6/23/2020

A federal judge ruled the National Rifle Association and the state of Florida may bypass otherwise mandatory mediation in their ongoing dispute over a 2018 state law imposing age restrictions on gun purchasing.

The state law, passed in response to the 2018 Parkland shooting, prevents individuals under the age of 21 from purchasing firearms. The law raised the legal age from 18 to 21 to purchase ' long guns,' such as rifles and shotguns.

The NRA filed suit claiming the age restriction is an unconstitutional violation of Second Amendment rights.
