Sergeant Jamak Amin of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has been fired and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after pointing a gun at an unarmed man refusing to give his name. The man was on the ground and in police custody at the time. Deputies who witnessed this reported Amin's actions to their superiors.
The victim, a Black man who had been accidentally released from jail, was found in North Tampa. After the police restrained him and were trying to confirm his identity, Amin pointed his gun at the man's head and threatened his life.
Sheriff Chronister of Hillsborough County said, “Even though the victim of this crime is an arrestee, he is entitled to the same protections and rights of any victim of a crime."
